Cognitive Assessments

Cognitive Assessment

At Sensus Cognition, we help you make sense of what’s happening with clarity, compassion and care.

If you or someone you care about has noticed changes in memory, thinking, or behaviour, it may be helpful to explore what’s going on. A cognitive assessment is a practical and supportive first step.

  • A cognitive assessment is a structured way of exploring how the brain is working — how you think, reason, plan, remember, and understand the world around you.

It’s designed to provide insight into:

    • How your brain is functioning now

    • Which areas are working well

    • Whether there are any difficulties that may need further support or investigation

The assessment helps uncover what’s behind any changes you’ve noticed and supports clear decision-making for you and those around you.

  • You may benefit from a cognitive assessment if you or someone close to you is:

    • Struggling with memory or forgetfulness

    • Finding it harder to focus or plan

    • Experiencing changes in thinking or behaviour

    • Noticing difficulties at work, home or in social settings

    • Feeling unsure about a possible diagnosis of dementia or other conditions

    Assessments are also useful when:

    • There’s uncertainty about what’s causing a change in functioning

    • You want to better understand how to support someone in your care

    • A formal diagnosis is required to access services or support

  • Our assessments are designed to be approachable, respectful, and informative. Here's what you can expect:

    1. Initial Consultation
We’ll meet to talk about what’s been going on, and why you (or your doctor) are seeking an assessment. This helps us tailor the process to your needs.

    2. Assessment Session
The main session involves a series of evidence-based tasks that look at memory, attention, language, problem-solving, and more. It’s not a test you can “pass” or “fail” — it’s simply a way to understand how your brain is working right now.

    3. Comprehensive Report
You’ll receive a detailed but accessible report that explains the results and what they might mean. If appropriate, the report may include a diagnosis and recommendations.

    4. Follow-Up and Support
We take time to talk through the results and what comes next. You’ll have space to ask questions, and we’ll offer support around referrals, strategies, or further steps.

    • A warm, supportive initial meeting

    • A formal cognitive assessment (90–120 minutes)

    • Clear, jargon-free report of findings

    • Optional discussion with your GP or support team

    • Tailored advice and recommendations

    • Resources and referrals if needed

  • Assessments are conducted by Dr Stephanie Daly, an experienced clinician with a background in psychiatry, general practice and elder health. Stephanie specialises in making complex information easy to understand, and creating a calm, respectful space to talk openly.

  • You don’t need a referral to get started — though we’re happy to work with your GP or care provider if needed.
